The Howard League for Penal Reform is to hold two fringe events at the Labour Party Conference – one looking at the future for prisons and the other focusing on the links between crime and gambling-related harms.
Both events are scheduled to take place on Monday 26 September 2022.
What’s the future for prisons?

The government has published a white paper on the future of prisons, with the expectation that the prison population will increase by more than 20 per cent over the next five years.
What are the implications for the government’s plans and can anything be done to arrest the growth in prison numbers?

The Commission on Crime and Gambling Related Harms was set up by the Howard League for Penal Reform in 2019 to answer three questions:
What are the links between gambling related harms and crime?
What impact do these links have on communities and society?
And what should be done?
