Briefing on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill: Amendments 208G and 208H on IPP sentences

These amendments will incentivise people serving an IPP sentence to build constructive, law-abiding futures in the community, and they will remove an administrative burden on the Parole Board.

Amendment 208G will address the hopelessness which is built into the IPP licence. It establishes an automatic expiry date alongside safeguards for the protection of the public.

Amendment 208H will resolve an anomaly which traps people in prison for months after a recall.
