Response to the Independent Human Rights Act Review call for evidence

“The Human Rights Act 1998 is a valuable piece of legislation which balances the value of Convention rights with the principle of parliamentary sovereignty. The Howard League strongly believes that there is no need to amend the Human Rights Act: if anything, it should be more closely adhered to. We are concerned that any weakening of the Act could undermine justice and fairness in prisons, with detrimental effects for both staff and people in prison.”
