Changing the focus: Prevention, Policing and Partnerships

  • Date: 18 Jul 2019

  • Location: Crowne Plaza Plymouth, Armada Way, Plymouth, PL1 2HJ

Changing the focus: Prevention, Policing and Partnerships will be held at Crowne Plaza Plymouth on Thursday 18 July 2019, 9.45am – 3.30pm

The Howard league for Penal Reform in partnership with the Pathfinder Scheme would like to invite you to the above event.

The Howard League for Penal Reform hosts annual awards which celebrate and champion work in the community which challenges and changes people for the better. The Howard League believes that projects which help keep people out of the criminal justice system, by providing alternative effective and targeted interventions will reduce the risk of re-offending.

Devon and Cornwall Police was awarded the Howard League Community Award 2018 in the ‘Adult ‘category for its Pathfinder Scheme. The Pathfinder Scheme is an early intervention scheme for low level offenders that are offered a four month contract designed to reduce harm and reoffending, proactively promoting Restorative Justice and encouraging positive action by offenders for the good of their community. The Pathfinder Scheme is an innovative culture change programme that has had significant impact and provides opportunities for further development in diversion.

In recognition of this achievement, we would like to invite you to find out more about the Pathfinder Scheme and the plans for the future. The event will be hosted by Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall and Frances Crook, Chief Executive, Howard League for Penal Reform.

The event will focus on the role of prevention within policing, and will include an exploration of Problem Solving and Trauma Informed Practice, whilst providing an opportunity to influence the development of Deferred Charge. In addition, there will be input from some of our Third Sector Partners on new collaborative ways of working, particularly around female offenders.

Full details on the venue and conference agenda will be available soon.
