Leaving Forces LifeThe briefing paper of the Howard League’s Inquiry into former armed service personnel in prison finds that for many the experience of leaving the forces is difficult, and a small proportion will find transition problematic.
There is also an issue of timing; the Inquiry’s research has discovered that many veterans commit offences some ten years after leaving the forces. While the military has improved resettlement provision over recent years, there remains the problem that help and information is, rightly, offered on leaving the services, but, practically, it is not until many years later that many incarcerated veterans will actually need that help.
