Celebrate your work by entering the 2021 Howard League Community Awards

We are launching this year’s Community Awards and inviting projects to come forward and celebrate their work. Every year we hear about the most amazing schemes that are successfully preventing crime, keeping people out of the criminal justice system and supporting victims. We want you to tell us about your work.

Being shortlisted, and especially winning, one of the Awards can really help your project. We promote your work nationally by holding open days or ‘in conversation’ events so that people all round the country can learn about what you are doing. We will work with your local press and sometimes (though I am not promising!) winning an award has helped secure more funding.

For the Howard League, getting to know the imaginative, compassionate and successful work that is growing locally helps us to learn about new ideas. Over the years we have seen Ministers use an Award-winning project to launch a national policy. Neil Platt has written about how winning a Howard League Award led to our establishing a national Commission on Crime and Problem Gambling, including holding a presentation at the United Nations.

There is a range of categories that cover all sorts of schemes and we are open to your ideas. We know that across the country local voluntary groups and statutory agencies are creating new ways of supporting vulnerable people in their communities, often done on a shoestring. We want to celebrate your work so that we can prevent crime, invest more in your work and share your experiences with others. We can make sure that the story you tell can reach a national audience. Your work deserves it. Please do put your work forward, we look forward to hearing from you.
